Frances Hampton Dunn of Dunwoody passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on July 9, 2013 at the age of 87.  Born in Etowah, TN in 1925 to Luther P. and Laura Cannady Hampton, she was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Etowah High School in 1943 and then attended Tennessee Wesleyan College, graduating with an Associate’s Degree. After the war, Frances married her high school sweetheart, William Reed (Bill) Dunn, who was the love of her life.   They attended the University Of Tennessee Law School and after a semester Frances decided to instead pursue a career as a legal secretary.  In the early 1950s they moved to Atlanta where Bill began a lifelong career as a Claims Manager with Kemper Insurance Co. and Frances worked as a legal secretary for Francis Marion "Buster" Bird of the Law Firm Jones, Bird and Howell. When the children came along, Frances devoted herself to being their loving and supportive mother until the day she died.   Once the children got older, Frances returned to work as a legal secretary and paralegal for the Met Life Insurance Co. Real Estate Dept. After retirement, Frances and Bill enjoyed traveling, but gave most of their time and energy to their six grandchildren. Frances was an active member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church.  Her deep faith and love of our Lord was the foundation of her life. She lived each day with the love and grace of Jesus Christ shining through in her words and actions.    Her children will be forever in her debt for passing on this strong faith and grace to them. Frances is survived by two daughters, Jenny (Rollin) Mathis, Debbie (Richard) Brown and a son, Reed Dunn (Nicole Smith), all of Dunwoody; six grandchildren Christy, Chelsea, Kyle,Reed, Kayla and Drew and many nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children.  The family wishes to particularly thank Reed and Nicole for living with and caring for our Mother in her last years. Funeral services will be held at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 13 at 2:00 PM, visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frances’ memory to the Dunwoody United Methodist Church (designated for the Prison Ministry) or to the United Methodist Childrens Home (UMCH) 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30030 (online at www.umchildrenshome.org.)
